rock it to your lollipop

oh marc...

i'm not a huge orange fan...but this made me reconsider...

the polaroid...now an endangered species of the art world....*sniff*

hey there...

all pictures courtesy of various websites...

sooo this weekend was rather lovely.

first up: stephen sprouse, 'rock on mars,' at the Deitch Projects until feb. 28 (wooster st. location)...a fiesty retrospective of sprouse's fashion and collaborations with icons of the 80's, including debbie harry, keith haring, iggy pop, and of course, louis vuitton by way of marc jacobs. it's a neon-highlighter feast for the senses. some of my faves....a tv-collage of sprouse's fashion runway shows, obviously a party in itself; a wall of polaroids of his beloved friends - debbie harry, random models (i think i saw naomi campbell in some of them), sid vicious, etc...and a 'vandalized' mies van der rohe Barcelona chair (col. White) scrawled with black sprouse handwriting. the exhibit is housed in a garage-of-a-soho-loft-space that perfectly compliments the grungy punk-rock-pop aesthetic that was signature to sprouse.

it will take 15-20 min to soak it all in....so go on your lunch break!

nnnnext: pre-party rendez-vous chez malvin and company in the west village....joe's pizza, coronas, and make-up courtesy of MAC and nars. inspired by steven sprouse himself and his neon orange that was so prevalent throughout his retrospective, i decided to highlight my pout with bright (almost blinding) orange lipstick. it's not an easy look to pull off, and i was a bit self conscious that i looked like the Joker from batman. but then i rationalized, "if i'm gonna go there....i might as well GO there...." and go i did. malvin completed my nude shimmer eyes w/kohl and we were out the door. clad in neon and nyc black, we were ready to party.

and then....we end up at Pianos to listen to this band "hockey," which turns out to be in my opinion the new MGMT. and i heart MGMT. the band actually went to the same college as malvin and his friends so we were groovin' (ok, dancing like crazy) in the 'front' row as if we were the band's bffs. so much fun and dancing was had. and after the show, like the groupies ( i mean bffs) that we were, we chatted it up with them and hugged them to pieces. and then we had to go to our next shindig.

which was....in union square....a friend-of-a-friend's birthday party at a bar/lounge, a bit shi-shi for me but it's all about the people, no? my little clique for the nite and i had a swell time, dancing to justin timberlake (remember him??) and a mix of 'top40' tunes....a definite departure from the usual indie rock/lower east side/williamsburg/lowkey vibe in which we imbibe....but nevertheless, love of the nite didn't get us down.

sleepovers, egg/sausage/toast breakfast over conversation of fencing, cauchy's integral formula (say whaaat), and oktoberfest rounded out the next morning.

and so this brings us to moooonday.

if u need something to keep your groove going, may i suggest "lollipop" by MIKA....the best pick-me-up of harmony, clapping, kickin' beats, and "suckin' too hard on your lollipop oh love's gonna get you down....say love, say love, oh love's gonna get you down..."

and repeat.
feelin' better?
